Watching these scumbags being killed or taken apart like worthless chunks of meat is what I enjoyed about this movie – with Cha tae-sik’s simple, bloodthirsty yet righteous rage. His nature is dark, as is the rest of the movie as he ventures in to grittier parts of the city, revealing a disgusting side of the underworld filled with the scum of the Earth. This is the driving force behind his relentless and ruthlessly vicious chase and killing of the kidnapping gangsters – and makes for some awesome entertainment! With So-mi becoming almost like a little sister or even a daughter to him, he sees the same mistakes unfolding again. This is what leads to his quiet existence, having mourned for years over their deaths. But later we learn of his loss – the sudden death of his pregnant wife. So-mi is a little girl whose mother is a heroin addict and she falls into trouble when she steals heroin from a bar she worked at. Cha is very quiet and he has only one friend who’s a kid named So-mi. The storyline of this movie follows an ordinary man named Cha Tae-sik running a simple pawnshop. This Korean gangster movie will leave you not just thrilled but emotionally satisfied as well.
